Glendale Heights, Illinois (May 26, 2020) – The Village of Glendale Heights and the Glendale Heights Founders Day Committee are sad to announce that Glendale Heights Fest 2020 will be canceled due to COVID-19. Glendale Heights Fest was scheduled for Wednesday through Sunday, July 15-19 at Camera Park in Glendale Heights.
With the guidelines mandated by the State of Illinois, the Village of Glendale Heights and the Founders Day Committee believe that Glendale Heights Fest would not be able to operate while respecting the Governor’s Restore Illinois plan, which calls for no mass gatherings until a vaccine or treatment for COVID-19 is developed. The Village of Glendale Heights believes that the health and safety of Glendale Heights Fest attendees, volunteers, entertainers, vendors, and staff are of the utmost importance.
Glendale Heights Fest has been the signature Glendale Heights summer event since 1983. The event culminates with a breathtaking fireworks show to close the event. It not only is a long-time summer tradition, but it also recognizes the anniversary of the Village of Glendale Heights. Every year, Glendale Heights Fest brings in over 50,000 people during the five day event with over 15,000 people on the final day for the spectacular fireworks show.
"As a long-time committee member, I am truly devastated that we have to make this difficult decision. Glendale Heights Fest is something that not only the Glendale Heights community looks forward to every year, but people from all over the Chicagoland area attend. However, I know that ultimately the health and safety of everyone involved is what is most important.” said Glendale Heights Mayor Linda Jackson. “We look forward to getting things back to normal as we all face these challenging times for the summer."
The Village is holding out hope for an abbreviated Fest later in the year as long as it can be accomplished safely. Glendale Heights Fest will return in full next year and is scheduled for July 14-18, 2021.
The Village of Glendale Heights and the Founders Day Committee extend their heartfelt gratitude for the support and patience for Glendale Heights Fest.
